Ethanol plant plans discharged into creek

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) An ethanol plant near Mina in Edmunds County is seeking permission to discharge 123 (m) million gallons of pre-treated water a year into a local creek.

Edmunds County commissioners have approved the discharge, and Brown County commissioners plan to meet as a drainage board next week on the request.

Glacial Lakes Energy is building a 100-million-gallon ethanol plant in the area.

The company wants to pipe its wastewater three and a-half miles to Snake Creek largely along a railroad embankment.

The Brown County planning and zoning director says the creek should be able to handle the extra water without problems.
