RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) Most of South Dakota's winter wheat crop looks good. That's according to the U-S-D-A's Agricultural Statistics Service.

One report, dated last Sunday, says 22 percent of the crop is rated fair, 49 percent is rated good and 23 percent is in excellent condition.

Jim Madsen, a rancher near New Underwood, says his winter wheat is above average although it is drier than it should be and that the quality might not be as good.

Madsen says the current triple-digit temperatures are tough on the crop.

He's expecting about 50 to 60 bushels an acre.
