New war spending debate...Winds fan fires...Changes to Sony PlayStation 3

CAPITOL HILL (AP) Democrats are poised to try again to force a change in the Bush administration's war strategy in Iraq. The Senate is taking up a bill to authorize military spending. One amendment is expected to call for U-S troops to begin withdrawing in 120 days, with most troops out of Iraq by spring.

BANGALORE, India (AP) Investigators in Bangalore, India, have seized a computer hard drive that belonged to the man suspected of ramming a Jeep into the airport in Glasgow, Scotland. A police official says the component is being examined for any connection to "terrorist activity."


UNDATED (AP) Heat and winds have fanned wildfires throughout the West. A fire in the South Dakota Black Hills killed one person and destroyed 27 homes. Several hundred homes were evacuated near Wenatchee, Washington. And in Utah, the largest wildfire in state history has now grown to 283-thousand acres.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) Pennsylvanians won't be able to take driver's license tests today or visit state parks. State government is partially shut down because of a budget stalemate. At least 24-thousand non-essential state workers have been furloughed.

UNDATED (AP) You can't buy it in the U-S until next month, but Sony is offering a PlayStation 3 console with a bigger hard drive.

The 80-gigabyte system will sell for 599 dollars. The current 60 gigabyte model will sell for 499 dollars, which is 100 dollars less than it costs now.
