STURGIS, S.D. (AP) The Meade County Commission has refused to renew the liquor license of a large campground that operates near Bear Butte during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

A county official says Jay Allen's alcohol license was denied because of unpaid bills, which raises the issue of character.

However, Allen can apply for a beer license in June.

American Indians and others opposed the initial approval of a liquor license last year to Allen because his campground and concert area is within 3 miles of Bear Butte which is sacred to Indians.
