Evangelical group says Romney "acknowledged" Mormons aren't Christian...Jan 25 2008 6:05PM
Associated Press UNDATED (AP) One of the nation's leading evangelical groups is saying that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has "acknowledged Mormonism is not a Christian faith." The comments come in a video voter guide from Focus on the Family Action. Tom Minnery, an executive with the group who makes the comment, says it's his interpretation of Romney's "Faith in America" speech last month that was intended to reassure voter about his religion. Romney is treated favorably in the video, compared with John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and Mike Huckabee. Minnery says he spoke with the Romney campaign after the video was posted and they did not contest his view or ask him to retract the statement. A Romney spokesman says "campaign guides by advocacy groups consist of their viewpoints." The church said in a statement that "all of our dreams and future aspirations are centered in our belief in Jesus Christ." % |

The word Mormon is derived from a word that means "disciple of Jesus Christ." As his disciples Mormons worship Jesus, believe that He is the Promised Messiah and they follow his teachings, most importantly loving God and one’s neighbor. Therefore, Mormons, such as me, are literally striving to be latter-day dispels of Christ. I add my witness to the Millions of Mormons (Dispels of Christ) before me that Jesus is the Son of God, the Redeemer of Israel, and my Savior from sin. Evangelicals may seek to strip me of the title “Christian” but they cannot deny me the grace of Christ.
Romney understands these points of difference don’t make Mormons less Christian, but more Christian.
He won’t say this, of course, because in our democratic system leaders are supposed to serve the interests and protect the religious freedom of all citizens, and challenging the religious beliefs of any particular group is not a good way to do that.
He’s running for commander-in-chief, not pastor-in-chief. It’s a concept Romney lives by that Huckabee gives lip service to when he’s not practicing religious identity politics.
The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is often accused by Evangelical pastors of not believing in Christ and, therefore, not being a Christian religion. This article http://mormonsarechristian.blogspot.com/ helps to clarify such misconceptions by examining early Christianity's comprehension of baptism, the Godhead, the deity of Jesus Christ and His Atonement.
The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) adheres more closely to First Century Christianity and the New Testament than any other denomination. For example, Harper’s Bible Dictionary entry on the Trinity says “the formal doctrine of the Trinity as it was defined by the great church councils of the fourth and fifth centuries is not to be found in the New Testament.”
One Baptist blogger stated “99 percent of the members of his Baptist church believe in the Mormon (and Early Christian) view of the Trinity. It is the preachers who insist on the Nicene Creed definition.” It seems to me the reason the pastors denigrate the Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is to protect their flock (and their livelihood).
