SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) Former Sen. George McGovern is scheduled to appear on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" Monday night.

McGovern, who lives in Mitchell, was the Democratic presidential nominee in 1972 but lost the general election to President Richard Nixon.

The 85-year-old politician is no stranger to comedy skits.

He hosted "Saturday Night Live" in 1984, and appeared on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" in 2005 when the radio show aired live from Mitchell.

"The Colbert Report" is hosted by Stephen Colbert, who portrays a conservative talk-show commentator.
