Crime Lab Work is Meticulous

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says it's not unusual that the Knutson case is unsolved after a year.

He says it takes time for crime lab employees to do their work.

They've analyzed over 100 pieces of evidence in the case and two new pieces of evidence have been sent to the FBI for their help.

Stenehjem says people have to remember solving a case is more time consuming than what you see on TV shows.

He says crime labs across the nation are experiencing heavier workloads because of new technology...

(Wayne Stenehjem, ND Attorney General) "They're scientists, their work is meticulous and their work takes a significant amount of time and they have to make sure to it properly and carefully, because once an arrest is made in this case or any other case there will be a trial, and we have to make sure it's been collected in a scientific way so it can defended when we get into court."

The crime lab is undergoing an expansion it will triple the amount of work space scientists will have to analyze DNA, fingerprints and other evidence.

Stenehjem says he plans to push for additional crime lab employees during the next legislative session. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
