Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) Crude prices skidded lower for a second straight session, helped by a stronger dollar. Near-month crude lost more than $3 to settle at $131.31 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Washington (AP) Senate Republicans have blocked an effort by Democrats to tax windfall profits of the five largest oil companies. Democrats also failed to get GOP support for a proposal to extend tax breaks for wind, solar and other alternative energy development, and for the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation. The tax breaks have either expired or are scheduled to end this year. WASHINGTON (AP) Federal officials are seeking more than 200 million dollars in fines and restitution from CompuCredit Corp. and two banks that allegedly engaged in deceptive credit card marketing practices. Regulators say credit cards were largely marketed to individuals with weak credit histories, or the subprime market. NEW YORK (AP) The first two games of the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers series on ABC were more popular than any National Basketball Association finals since 2004. Nielsen Media Research says the series' second game was seen by more than 13 million people Sunday, slightly more than for Thursday's opener. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
