Behind the Scenes with Miss Rodeo NDJun 12 2008 7:30PM
KXMBTV Bismarck The current Miss Rodeo is Lindi Ellis and we discovered there's a lot involved in being Miss Rodeo North Dakota... <When you think, of Miss Rodeo North Dakota you probably think of this: a young lady who does a lot of meet and greet at rodeo events.. But if you go behind the scenes Lindi Ellis, that is current Miss Rodeo, will tell you it's alot more than that.. Lindi Ellis "Really we travel around. We do alot of promotional. A lot of marketing. We talk with a lot of people. And pretty much just try to promote the sport of rodeo. And what we can do to keep rodeo alive." And to serve that duty to the fullest, Lindi is currentely getting prepared for Miss Rodeo America 2009. The top honor for the competition. Ellis, "That is the world. That is THE World title." And it's no joke. She trains several hours a day Studying, practicing, KNOWING, Rodeo because to be that figurehead, there's more to it than just being presentable. It's knowing the ins and outs of an entire business Ellis "What I like to do is study. Lots of studying, computers, books and I'm actually trained to talk to one fo the vet clinics to shadow for awhile. See if I can pick up anything new there." One of those is actually riding a horse. Knowing how to manuever the animal. ALL is on the line when it comes to that moment in the competition Ellis, " Horsemanship is actually the one thing I'd really like to compete for. I'd really like to win if I could. That's the one thing I'd really like to practice....And it shows who is the real horseman and who's not." Lindi has been riding since she was 8. But still, when it comes to horses, there's always a factor of the unknown. Ellis, "So once you get on and you ride these horses, you never know what's going to happen. You don't know if they're going to stop. You don't know if they're going to change lanes. And you don;t know how touchy their mouths are so (laugh) I'm excited, I'd really like to do it." It's a lot of work to be Miss Rodeo North Dakota. And a lot of time goes into it, but at the end of the day, Lindi likes what's she's doing Ellis, "Right now, rodeo is at it's finest. You have media. You have your sponsers. It's the biggest it's ever been. And it's just going to keep growing."> Like we said earlier, Lindi is training for the world title which takes place at end of November.
