American Indian group traverses the nationJul 2 2008 8:24AM
Associated Press The Longest Walk 2 started in San Francisco on February 11th and will end in Washington D.C. on July 11th. Walkers are commemorating the Longest Walk of 1978. That 3,600-mile effort gathered support to halt proposed legislation challenging Indian treaties with the U.S. government. This time, the walk is focused on reclaiming the earth. Tuesday, a motley group of American Indian, black, Asian and Latino walkers trailed up Route 1 outside Richmond, Virginia, picking up litter along the way. They marched behind a banner reading "All life is sacred, save Mother Earth." (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 07-02-08 0819CDT |
