SDSU group travels to Africa

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) A group of 27 students from South Dakota State University recently returned from a 23-day study trip to Africa.

The graduate and undergraduate students and four faculty members traveled in a 1,800-mile circle beginning in the city of Accraghana.

They toured the countries of Benin and Burkina Faso before returning to Ghana in the southern part of the west arm of Africa.

The College of Agriculture and Biological Studies sponsored the trip but it was open to students and faculty of any college on campus.

Students researched and interviewed people to answer questions developed for their focus. They also participated in mini-safaris and attended a championship Soccer game between two of the best teams in Ghana.

SDSU Plant Science Professor Zeno Wicks says study trips are about self-discovery as much as book knowledge.
