Associated Press Washington (AP) A top anthrax researcher at the government's biodefense lab has apparently committed suicide. The Los Angeles Times says the Justice Department had been readying criminal charges against 62-year-old Bruce Ivins (EYE'-vins) in the 2001 anthrax mailings. Five people were killed and 17 sickened in the attacks. WASHINGTON (AP) The American Academy of Actuaries says policymakers should consider raising the retirement age. With doubts about the financial future of Social Security, the group points out that people are living longer and drawing more money from the program these days. It will be making its recommendations Monday. WASHINGTON (AP) The Labor Department releases the July employment report today and economists expect that it to show a seventh straight month of job losses. It follows yesterday's report that first-time claims for unemployment benefits rose to the highest level in five years last week. NIAGARA, Wis. (AP) Authorities in Marinette County, Wisconsin, are searching for a middle-age man wearing camouflage clothing and carrying an assault rifle. He is suspected of shooting four people three fatally near the Wisconsin-Michigan state line yesterday. Sheriff's officials are calling it an "active shooter situation." MINNEAPOLIS (AP) It was a year ago today that the I-35W bridge between Minneapolis and St. Paul buckled and collapsed, killing 13 people and injuring 145.
