Man to stay in jail for South Dakota AIM slayingAug 29 2008 11:55AM
Associated Press By CARSON WALKER Associated Press Writer RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) The third man indicted in connection with the December 1975 slaying of a fellow American Indian Movement member in South Dakota will stay in jail. Dick Marshall appeared Friday in federal court in Rapid City. He earlier pleaded not guilty to aiding and abetting the first-degree murder of Annie Mae Aquash (AH'-kwash) on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. His lawyer says he has not reviewed the evidence and wasn't ready to argue whether Marshall should be detained until his trial. A prosecutor says Marshall was convicted of an unrelated murder, twice violated his parole, was arrested a year ago for drunken driving and is the subject of a protection order taken out by his girlfriend. Another man was convicted of killing Aquash and another stands trial in October. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 08-29-08 1146CDT |
