Associated Press Washington (AP) It's another working weekend for congressional aides poring over proposals to bailout the nation's struggling financial system. Democrats and Bush administration officials say they're willing to include House Republicans' idea of having the government insure distressed mortgages and a part of a larger plan but only as an option. OXFORD, Miss. (AP) John McCain and Barack Obama agreed in Friday night's debate in Oxford, Mississippi, that the government will have to act quickly to save what's left of the economy. But each is reserving final approval of a bailout plan until they see details. JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) sarah palin says she'll send $2,100 to three charities to account for tainted donations to her 2006 campaign to become governor of Alaska. Some came from politicians implicated in a federal corruption probe. The money is going to Abused Women's Aid in Crisis and Crisis Pregnancy Center and Special Olympics Alaska. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A coalition of citizen groups is urging Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday to extend the October 6th voter registration deadline for Texas counties hit hardest by Hurricane Ike. They say it should be extended by at least a week. MIAMI (AP) Tropical Storm Kyle is approaching hurricane strength as it chugs north in the open Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center says Kyle's top sustained winds have increased to 70 miles-per-hour and that it will likely become a hurricane on Saturday with winds of at least 74-miles-per-hour.
