Associated Press Washington (AP) The 700-billion-dollar financial industry rescue plan has been approved by the Senate. A vote in the House is next. TOKYO (AP) Asian stock markets are retreating as broader concerns about a global economic slowdown outweigh any relief over the U.S. Senate's passage of the financial industry rescue package. Japan's benchmark Nikkei lost 1.1 percent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index slipped 0.9 percent. WASHINGTON (AP) A new poll suggests that Barack Obama has surged to a seven-point lead over John McCain one month before the presidential election. According to an Associated Press-GfK survey, likely voters now back Obama 48-41 percent over McCain.
