He says Congress took "a big step" by providing the tools necessary to bring some stability into the marketplace. He says the government will implement the plan at "a careful and deliberate pace" to ensure tax dollars are spent wisely. NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) Now that the financial crisis may be easing a bit, Barack Obama is talking about health care again. In Virginia, he gave an unusually detailed outline of his plan today. He said it would make coverage more affordable to most Americans. Obama says McCain's plan could leave millions of people struggling to buy medical insurance. WASHINGTON (AP) A month before the election, Barack Obama finds himself on top of the battleground polls. And the economic crisis is breaking his way. John McCain's advisers say he'll be ramping up his attacks with a tougher, more focused message describing "who Obama is." NEW ORLEANS (AP) William Jefferson is seeking his 10th term in Congress. Jefferson is facing federal bribery charges as he tries to fend off six challengers in the Democratic primary for his New Orleans-based congressional seat. Jefferson hopes to survive today's primary and move on to a November 4th runoff. ELK GROVE, Calif. (AP) A Canadian farmer has won a contest in California with a pumpkin that weighs more than 1,500 pounds. He collected more than $9,000 in prize money today at the Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin and Harvest Festival. A Festival spokesman says the entry set a new California record, by just one pound.
