Executives from the three auto manufacturers in the United States are before congress asking for a twenty-five billion dollar bailout. Many people question the wide spread effects of a possible failure of these companies if nothing is done to offer some help. Brad Feldman looks for the answer at some local car dealerships. The debate might be taking place hundreds of miles away.. (Sound- car) ...but the affects are being felt at this local car lot (Ryan Barth/ Bill Barth Ford) "We've scaled back our inventory." Ryan Barth says the sales of new cars is down...across town at Ressler Chevrolet...it's more of the same (Bob Kupper/ Ressler Chevrolet) "The new sales have their ups and downs. The used we're always strong in used." However, at a time when their vehicle makers are on the verge of financial disaster..these car dealers remain in cruise control (Ryan Barth/ Bill Barth Ford) "If they do go bankrupt, it's not going to affect us a whole lot I don't think. They are just going to reorganize and there is still going to be a Ford and a GM probably." (Bob Kupper/ Ressler Chevrolet) "I would expect the plants would be idle for a while so that would slow that stuff down. But as far as parts and warranty work all that we haven't seen a hiccup at all." And when you are ready to buy...both Barth and Kupper say they will be ready to hand over the keys (Bob Kupper/ Ressler Chevrolet) "We will weather it out no matter if it is a few years we will weather it out." Brad Feldman KX News Barth says many customers say they want to wait to see what happens with the bailout. He says many people think if the auto makers need to make money they will just cut prices...But Barth says it is more likely to see a cut in production.
