Williston Lodging Situation To Improve

Getting a hotel room in Williston on short notice is not an easy thing to do lately...in fact, many times it's impossible.

The booming oil business in the Bakken Formation has produced a housing crunch, and a hotel room crunch.

That should be relieved a bit over the next few years though.

Two new hotels are planned that will bring more than 200 rooms to Williston.

The city has been working with InterContinental Hotels Group to bring more rooms to this area near the airport and other existing hotels.

That work is paying off.

Tom Rolfstad the director of Economic Development in Williston says growth is coming.

(Tom Rolfstad - Williston Economic Development) "The first one would be a Candlewood Suites. Full kitchen, separate bedroom, really like and apartment. They are also looking at a 125 unit Holiday Inn with a conference center."

Rolfstad expects ground to be broken for the first hotel in the spring with the Holiday Inn breaking ground in 2010.

Bismarck and Fargo already have Candlewood Suites. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
