Associated Press Washington (AP) They've driven hundreds of miles, but they may have nothing to show for it. The CEOs of the Big Three U.S. automakers are still running into a lot of skepticism in Congress as they make another pitch for a federal bailout. Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama wants to know how the $34 billion would be paid back. He says the money might simply "prop up a failed business model for a few months." WASHINGTON (AP) The head of the United Auto Workers union is telling members of the Senate Banking Committee that bankruptcy is not a "viable option" for the auto industry. Some lawmakers from both parties want the automakers to consider a "pre-packaged" bankruptcy. The companies say that would kill sales by destroying customers' confidence. NEW YORK (AP) Stocks had been holding relatively steady for most of the day, but they've moved lower in late trading. Stocks fell amid growing anxiety about what's coming up tomorrow in the November employment report. There are fears that it will show a further deterioration in the job market. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) oil prices are at a four-year low, and so is the average price of a gallon of gas. Oil fell below $44 a barrel today, and average Gasoline Prices dipped under $1.80 a gallon. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) A small-town police chief is among three men who've been indicted on involuntary manslaughter counts in connection with the accidental shooting death of an 8-year-old boy. The child was firing an Uzi at a gun fair in Massachusetts in October when he lost control of it and shot himself in the head. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
