With 162 members of the North Dakota House and Senate looking on as the governor laid out his ideas for the legislative session, you might expect about that many different reactions.

But the legislators we talked with following the State of the State address seemed unanimous in their approval of what the governor had to say especially regarding the need to reduce property taxes.

Here's a sampling of what legislators had to say...,

(Rep. Louise Potter, (D) Grand Forks) "My reaction, even as a Democrat, is very positive. I think the governor has hit areas that are critical for North Dakota." (Sen. Dave Hogue, (R) Minot) "I agreed with a lot of what the governor had to say. I support increased funding for eduction. I htink it's importand for the state to uinvest in telecommunications infrastructure, it will allow companies like Microsoft and the cooperative in Mandan to continue to grow." (Rep. Kim Koppelman, (R) West Fargo) "I think thematically they were things that most North Dakotans can agree with and be excited about. We are one of the few states with a budget surplus, we have people coming to our state which is a new twist because there are opportunities here and it bodes well for our future." (Rep. Louis Pinkerton, (D) Minot) "The governor is on the right line that we need to reduce property taxes locally. I would like to see it higher than 70% funding. I'd like to see 80% or 85% state funding for eduction. The state has many ways to get tax money, schools only have property taxes."
