Great job done by the jury. I believe the penalty phase will follow suit. Keep the laws strong to keep the public advised of where people like Mr Rodriguez are living. (if they register and update adresses that is)
Keep the Sjodin family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

For justice to be served they should do to him what he done to Dru, just make it worse. The man dont deserve to live.

YAY!! One phase is over. The prosecution did an excellent job presenting the case to the jury - less than 4 hours deliberation! I hope they will decide the death penalty is appropriate. This "man" has had way too many chances to rehabilitate himself - it is time for him to go meet his maker.

this is a crock for the defense. I am familiar with exposure to chemicals, brain tumors and behavior. My husband passed away from one . He surely did not behave as Mr Rodrigues did. Mr Rodrigues may very well have brain damage but if I were on the jury I would not let it influence me in any way regarding what his sentence should be.

Of course, he had some type of brain abnormality, if he hadn't, I think Dru would be alive today and we would not be wasting our time listening to all the crap about him.

I also wonder what his story is, though. What kind of person would do something like this? Where is he coming from and what are signs and symptoms etc., what do we look for in sex offenders to see which ones will kill. Although I don't want any out unsupervisied 24/7, ever. Bottom line. He needs to be studied, so we can better predict in the future.

I just hope it will not take another 15 years before he is executed. It should be next week.

Great job jury! This was the right decision. Now we have to hear about all the appeals to spare his life. He didn't listen to Dru's pleas, why should we listen to his?

The sentence he's received is far more humane than the one he gave his victim, family, and friends.

Does anybody know where he will be executed? I would like to send a few bucks to pay for the needle used to put him to death. And I better not hear about how lethal injection is cruel or painful. How about what happened to Dru? Great job, jury, for doing the right thing.

He'll probably die of old age before we execute him. Wouldn't it be nice to treat him with the same respect he treated Dru? Torture him and leave him to die a slow death exposed to our good old ND winters? What a freak. He looks like he could hardly organize a trip to the bathroom - must be the face he puts on after he gets caught.

I think the little man should have been put to death long ago.He is not worth tax payers money. We have to pay our way in this world. Just think of how many students that could of got funding for school. This money should be going to younger people instead of criminals. The government is always cutting funding for medical, roads, schooling etc. And to use that much for a criminal is just not right. He should of been put to rest as soon as he was arrested. Why waste dollars on him. 1.2 million dollars is lot of money.

Innocent until proven guilty? Hey, I'm all for it. I think we live in a country that has the best justice system in the world but it's far from perfect. This scumbag just put on death row will have more years added on for chances of appeal at the expense of tax payers after he's been convicted. And let's not forget Dru Sjodin. This same scumbag snuffed her life in the most evil way. I think we should skip the appeals process and get rid of him asap so we can all go on with our lives without him.

This man is guilty. He looks like a monster, there is no life left in his eyes. Why should he be protected and fed three times a day when he took the life of a beautiful girl away from her and her family. The money going into the case could be spent in way better ways. Build a dorm or frat house in rememberance of her or even fix a road. This is a day in age when criminals are not afraid of the punishments because they know they can appeal and spend the rest of their lives doing so in a compfortable cozy cell getting three meals a day.

This personand he's not a man, that's for surehas forfeited his right to protection. If "an eye for an eye" were still the rule of law, he would curse the day he was born. And what's up with his sick mother? How could she not know what he was doing? No, he killed and raped Dru because he couldn't do it to his mother. He's a sick person who will never be changed and the sooner he's executed the better off society will be. These people are beyond repair and what they do to others is deliberate, so we should be just as deliberate and show that we care more about the rights of the dead or brutalized victims than we do about the killers who have years to savor their memories.

I was a juror on that case. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever done. We all did the right thing and followed all of the rules of the court while we were in the courts and while we were out of the courts. Noone will ever understand why he did what he did. There are so many comments that I would like to make but don't know if I even can. I have to live with this decision for the rest of my life. My kids will be proud of me but they also have to see me cry for no reason, walk the halls because after 9 months I still cant sleep, hear my restless sleep as I envision someone after my daughters. I can NEVER imagine what the amazing and courageous family of Dru Sjodin are going through by losing the most beautiful and brave woman I had the priveledge of knowing. Please keep them in your prayers EVERY DAY and lets not let Drus sincerity fade just because of what he did to her. Lets not also forget that there are two families here no matter what anger you hold for him, it is not his families fault. BOTH families searched for Dru...
