You're kidding, right?
This part of your "story", is in NO WAY correct: "Also at the Legislature today, The Senate voted 25-17 in favor of ending the use of the Fighting Sioux as UND's nickname."
This was NOT the North Dakota Senate. It was the University Senate at the University of North Dakota. HUGE difference.
There were also 14 members of the University Senate that abstained, including President Kelley of UND. Way to take a stand!
This resolution was introduced, anonymously, by the way, in order to fend off the backlash that Fighting Sioux nickname opponents are going to receive when the Spirit Lake Nation votes on the issue at a referendum later this month. The vote will most likely pass, and nickname opponents are petrified of that fact. It will expose their position on the issue for what it really is. NOTHING!
Is there someone there that researches items before they are posted as "news"? Reply...
yes... its them that arent indians that WANT TO BE....so its offensifff... Reply...
From what I understood all the Indian Nations in ND will be asked to vote.
I think it is pretty stupid myself, Thoughout history we have learned that Sioux was one of the most fierce and respected tribes and to have a school want to honor that by using the fighting sioux as a name you would think the Sioux Nation would be proud. They probably are, it was probably some other tribe that started the whole it offends me thing. Oh well, more for us to blog about I reckon. Reply...

Has anybody been to the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake Wisc.? A couple of weekends ago I went there for the weekend with 6 other of my fellow workers from the State Hospital. We went down there to see the fall colors along the St. Croix river and to go to a a big Flea Market they have on weekends along Hwy. 8 about 20 miles west of the Casino. We spent the weekend at the Casino hotel, went to the Flea Market on Saturday, and on the way back visited a beautiful huge garden in St. Cloud. I forget the name of it. We sure had a great time and got some good deals at the Flea Market. Nobody won any money though. Reply...
Holy Smokes Si Ko That sounds terrible. Did you/they catch the thieves? Details please, more details.
I have never went to a concert at a casino, unless Moon Dance Jam outside of Walker counts! Just too busy! lol
The fellow gamblers and some of the workers made the trip to 4 Bears fun. Only encountered two crabby workers the whole time, not bad for a Saturday and Sunday, working weekends can make anyone crabby.

Lots of negative comments with only a few postive comments. Awareness is the key to combatting the local drug problems and must be grassroots, in other words the people in the community need to step forward to deal with this problem. Someone mentioned turning in the drug dealers, that is one pf the initial steps to dealing with the drug problem, which I must say takes alot of courage. This being that some maybe close friends or relatives but, has to be done if the tribe wants to regain it's dignity. Then awareness, such as workshops, marches to the tribal headquarters, and drug free runs/walks. Develop a slogan make bumper stickers, posters showing the negative effects of the drug. these should be open to evryone school age children, adults, and elders. It can be done!! Reply...

leaders of the standing rock reservation asking for more money to fight the meth problem? so what you can pocket all the money and you and the leaders can live nice and eat all the good food while we eat commodities! why don't you just start a business on the reservation where we can all work theres nothing to live and look forward to on the reservation. fix the roads so indians won't be dying on the way back after drinking in the bars. fix the indian communities nice, flowers, plant gardens and sell fruits and vegetables at a farmers market I can think of a lot of things I can do for my people if I was a leader I would built a church. on the reservation and have God on my side! If the items were not manufactured to military standards, as required in the contract, then there should be a recall of the lot numbers that were affected. We owe the military members the best quality items available. I am sure our taxpayer dollars paid big money for the items, but the contractor did not uphold their part of the contract.
When a recall is being conducted, Sioux Manufacturing should pay for the costs that are involved in the recall. Our military members deserve the best protection against the forces they come across.
A military contractor commiting fraud is undermining our national defense! Reply...
Good for you. The media never reports this kind of fraud and treason. They honestly could care less about the lives of our troops. Thanks for posting this! Reply...
Rick,
What is your point?
Rick, you need to write more compelling descriptions to persuade me and others to accept your opinion.
It is inconclusive to merely direct to look at a picture and determine if a picture is an acceptable norm...
In what way should I look at it???
How should I give creditable evaluation in an unbiased social norm???
Should I evaluate it from the non-Indian belief or should I evaluate it as an Indian would evaluate????
Should I look at the artistic quality, but ignore the negative connotation of the symbol of the picture that it represents????
Based on these justifications, lets be more intelligent about this matter, because the future of the logo and mascot affects the morality of the UND and likewise the removal of the logo and mascot will honor and respect the Sioux Nations and including all Indian Nations across the America.
This is not just about the University of North Dakota and North Dakota. This message is carried to all 50 states and into all international countries. Reply...
