Lots of negative comments with only a few postive comments. Awareness is the key to combatting the local drug problems and must be grassroots, in other words the people in the community need to step forward to deal with this problem. Someone mentioned turning in the drug dealers, that is one pf the initial steps to dealing with the drug problem, which I must say takes alot of courage. This being that some maybe close friends or relatives but, has to be done if the tribe wants to regain it's dignity. Then awareness, such as workshops, marches to the tribal headquarters, and drug free runs/walks. Develop a slogan make bumper stickers, posters showing the negative effects of the drug. these should be open to evryone school age children, adults, and elders. It can be done!! Reply...

leaders of the standing rock reservation asking for more money to fight the meth problem? so what you can pocket all the money and you and the leaders can live nice and eat all the good food while we eat commodities! why don't you just start a business on the reservation where we can all work theres nothing to live and look forward to on the reservation. fix the roads so indians won't be dying on the way back after drinking in the bars. fix the indian communities nice, flowers, plant gardens and sell fruits and vegetables at a farmers market I can think of a lot of things I can do for my people if I was a leader I would built a church. on the reservation and have God on my side! If the items were not manufactured to military standards, as required in the contract, then there should be a recall of the lot numbers that were affected. We owe the military members the best quality items available. I am sure our taxpayer dollars paid big money for the items, but the contractor did not uphold their part of the contract.
When a recall is being conducted, Sioux Manufacturing should pay for the costs that are involved in the recall. Our military members deserve the best protection against the forces they come across.
A military contractor commiting fraud is undermining our national defense! Reply...
Good for you. The media never reports this kind of fraud and treason. They honestly could care less about the lives of our troops. Thanks for posting this! Reply...
Rick,
What is your point?
Rick, you need to write more compelling descriptions to persuade me and others to accept your opinion.
It is inconclusive to merely direct to look at a picture and determine if a picture is an acceptable norm...
In what way should I look at it???
How should I give creditable evaluation in an unbiased social norm???
Should I evaluate it from the non-Indian belief or should I evaluate it as an Indian would evaluate????
Should I look at the artistic quality, but ignore the negative connotation of the symbol of the picture that it represents????
Based on these justifications, lets be more intelligent about this matter, because the future of the logo and mascot affects the morality of the UND and likewise the removal of the logo and mascot will honor and respect the Sioux Nations and including all Indian Nations across the America.
This is not just about the University of North Dakota and North Dakota. This message is carried to all 50 states and into all international countries. Reply...
chippewa58316 is it? ok first of all i dont even want to attempt to even caring to look at the picture, and what makes you think i want to anyway? explain that? all of this DRAMA is really pathetic i just think that ''The fighting Sioux'' name should stay the way it was from the start. WE CLEAR ON THAT.!!!!! HOW YOU THEM APPLES? Reply...

Well first of all, the crying has go to go because this issue has nothing to do with fighing over. I just think that whoever you are that is writing all of this upabove is just plan stuiped, well if it werent for the whites we wouldnt be able to have money, foods, a home especially. chippewa58316, you talk about being treated like **** at UND, well as a white boy going to the stinking casino's on the Reservations I'm treated like ****. So therefore when you cry babies are done with getting the name change, I say it will be time for us White's in North Dakota to vote in State owned Casino's which will split all proceeds 50% of profits for Schools on none reservation land, and 50% for all Born and raised North Dakota residents not living on a reservation paid a bonus check every 3 years. The copy of the Treaty you posted is actually a Treaty between the Indian Tribes and the United States Government.
It is not a Treaty between the Indian Tribes and the State of North Dakota or the University of North Dakota. Reply...
I would greatfully appericated that the name for the UND would just stay the way it is because you are all are doing nothing but fighting over the name its great that you want to change the name but i think that fighting over a name doesnt really solve anything in this matter at all not one bit. I happened to be a Native Ameican of The Three Tribes. Im just saying that the name should just stay the way it is. Reply...
dont go sounding off as a cleveland indians fan..LOL Reply...
To Sioux Fan, You have so much to say about UND, but have you ever actually attend college there?? If you did or not, it wouldn't make a difference. I attend UND and it is a different story when it comes to being Native American. We are treated like **** and are being **** on. Were is the respect???? I'm not even a sioux but its still disrespectsul to me, being a native american. And other people think we should be proud of the fact of the logo, what is there to be proud of??? As a native american, with native american ethics, we are made fun of at every game because of the logo. If someone were to put on a head dress, that is disrespectful to us! In our native american culture, you just don't wake up in the morning and put on a head dress, YOU EARN YOUR HEAD DRESS...and most people don't realize how offensize that is to us when they are copying the logo! Reply...
IT IS NICE TO KNOW THAT A FORMER CHAIRMAN OF THE SIOUX TRIBE BACK IN THE DAY IN 1939, APPROVED THE LOGO AND NICKNAME ALONG WITH THE NCAA, HIS DAUGHTER TRULY DISSAPROVES OF GETTING RID OF THE LOGO AFTER HIS APPROVAL , AFTER A SUPPORTIVE ARTICLE TO KEEP IT WHEN HE GAVE THE NCAA PERMISSION TO ALOW THE LOGO AND NAME, ALONG WITH THE NCAA. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE NCAA BEING INVOLVED NOW IN 2007 AND 2008 AND BEYOND WHEN THEY HAD NO PROBLEM OTHERWISE IN THE PAST. ALL THAT WANT IS MONEY. THE PEOPLE OF BOTH NATIONS SHOULD BE PROUD OF THE NAME AND RECOGNITION, NATIONWIDE. SOME ARE ENVY OF THE FACILITY, WHEN ACTUALLY YOU SHOULD BE PROUD. ESPECIALLY WHEN A FORMER STUDENT AND TRUE SIOUX HOCKEY PLAYER GAVE HIS HONOR AND DONATION TO THE UNIVERSITY THAT RESPECTED HIM WITH DIGNITY, AND HE NEVER BLINKED AN EYE, HE LOVED THE SIOUX AND UND FROM THE START OF HIS CAREER. Mako,
Thank you for the additional information on the history of the European settles in North Dakota.
I still maintain my position which is that the The University of North Dakota needs to immediately establish a committee or a task force to begin gathering information for the next mascot and logo.
Certainly, there are many options to investigate and research to honor the North Dakota European immigrants and settlers, such as: the Scandinavians, German and Czechs or the Scottish.
They can now include an appropriate French mascot and logo to honor their French European immigrants to North Dakota. Reply...
