Homicides down 6%: In 2008, U.S. city murders drop close to 1950s levels

The drop in the murder rates in American cities from 1991 to 2008 is unprecedented in modern U.S. history.

The 2004 to 2007 homicide rates already were the lowest in four decades. Late this year, when the FBI releases official numbers for 2008, we may discover the cities have not been so peaceful since the 1950s (but more likely, like the mid-1960s).

You can continue to be terrified and live in your little shell waiting for Jesus to save you. Too bad he won't be coming.

My stats come from the United States Bureau of Justice. How about yours? Oh, right....you didn't have any......you just "believe" the US is getting more evil.

Just because Obama doesn't want the Federal Government to outlaw abortion, doesn't mean he is "for" or "believes" in them.

Maybe someday you will post an actual fact.

rey said  see how many murders are committed everyday its the new norm

According to the population, there were about the same number of murders in 2007  as there was in 1960, and about 8000 fewer than 18 years ago...and there are 50 million more people in this country!!!

a president that believes in abortion

Sheila,

One day you will find out about death and who the first person you will see when you enter into that stage. You do not have to believe in Jesus believe in the devil he is everywhere turn the tv on see how many moms kill their kids see how many murders are committed everyday its the new norm. How would you know if prayer hurts? who is pressure you...like you have not faked some private moments of your own....Jesus is as real as you and I and more power to him.....I am not trying it with I debating with you deep down you know this information is correct and troubles you otherwise you would not keep coming back and posting on this site if you knew there was no truth to it.....I could careless if you pray....your lost sister not mine....No one can fool Jesus.

I don't blame Jesus for anything.  I don't believe he's ever done anything to me, because dead people generally can't.  This is especially true of dead people who have been deceased for over 2000 years.  By the same token, he hasn't done anything for me.  I never expected it either, what with him being a dead historical figure.

Prayer doesn't hurt anything, and it doesn't help anything aside from maybe psychologically in someone so inclined.  However, in order for it to mean anything it should be voluntary, and it's also unhealthy for you or anyone else to pressure someone else to pray who doesn't feel like it.  It's like you're asking them to fake it, or like you want them to pray so that you can feel as if you've saved someone.  You're trying it with me, and even if I ever felt like praying, I'd hardly give you the satisfaction of telling you about it.  That's because it's a private thing, and you're trying to make it public.  Public shows of devotion and piety are just shows.  I'm not going to approve of such exhibitionist religion, and trying to get the acknowledgment of the government is more evidence that it is just showing off.  Do you think Jesus will be fooled if it has a government stamp of approval?  Reply...

Whoever bullies the government including when it comes to preference obviously alot of people support it like i do not support abortion I dont like the thought of a mother killing her child and the government supports it. Thats where prayer comes in because taking the proper steps does not always help what does a prayer hurt....if praying does not hurt anyone whats your problem how is affecting you?

Prayer is free..does not cost a thing...try it you might help someone or even yourself....do knock it until you try it.

Or you one thats likes to blame everyone for everything instead of taking responsbility for your own actions and its much easier to blame Jesus.

I still don't see why the government needs to sanction this for church groups and civilians who would and could do it anyway.  It seems like some of those groups want to bully the government into showing preference for them or their beliefs.  I don't like that part of it.  If you want to pray or have a national day of prayer without government sanction, knock yourself out.  Reply...

Sheila,

I think you miss read the heading of this post it is called National Prayer Day it means everywhere not just schools.

Let me give you more information about it maybe it will clear up some confustion about it and receive a better understanding.

It includes more than 40,000 groups throughout the US, many of which contain hundreds, if not thousands of members. National Day of Prayer brings people together for one obvious reason- to pray.

This years theme is Prayer America's Hope.

Area religious leaders and community officials offered prayers for different regions of the country, as well as US leaders.

You know as we read, the men that made the Continental Congress, they prayed, and they prayed to the God of the Bible, and we just want to continue that. God has blessed us with freedom, and we want to preserve that and keep it."

Continues its existence for 58 years and standing.
