Shoppe. I don't think that you caught that I tweaked the scenario [I am not bringing up a new argument..... I was just giving an example]. As it turns out Islam was actually correct.....and it promises an afterlife.

But I'm guessing that you won't choose Islam. I'm not saying you don't believe in God or don't pursue trying to understand Him; however,

AND AGAIN....I'm just commenting on the original "Heads I win" idea......the chances are that you won't pick another religion even though the Vegas odds suggest you should.

NO NO NO NO. Ww.   We are smart enough to see that the "religion" of peace and love even though it would promise an "afterlife" is false.   So,  you cannot use that senerio.    The reason we wouldn't seek another religion,  doesn't mean WE WOULD NOT SEE GOD.   I feel we would just not want to be part of a religous group.

Very different.

If we had to see that Jesus didn't exist as our savior,  we would still want to know God.

.....continuing.  The fact is that even though there is promise of an afterlife (with Islam), because your values are already set, you couldn't live your life in the manner you thought was right.

The promise of an afterlife isn't nearly as important as trying to live an authentic life now.

The following I could be definitively wrong about:

Because we have imperfect knowledge, I don't think you necessarily live your life as a Christian to be saved for the afterlife - - though of course this is important . But rather, you live your life as Christian because you believe.......IT IS HOW YOU SHOULD LIVE LIFE.

In my scenario, you almost have no choice.

Suppose (unknown to both you and me) that the Muslims have got it right.  (I'm guessing that) Your entire value system would not allow you to see the answer......and neither would mine.

In any event, even if you knew that Christianity was wrong, you would (probably) not choose Islam even though it too gives promises of an afterlife.

It isn't that the original statement is wrong......its just that it isn't very "useful" unless you are already a believer.

So in your scenario Wu, we both have choosen wrong and miss out on eternal life. Reply...

ND. I read Rev 19.  If I saw the heavens open up and Jesus emerged with eyes buring like fire while riding a white horse....

.....well...

I would have guessed/reasoned wrongly.

My fate is probably sealed if that happens.

In my scenario to you, you still had a chance at everlasting life by choosing another religion.

No I would not take about another religion of any form....I would die with the beliefs that I encountered. Reply...

Here is what in wrote in post #1:

I can be a believer or not a believer. If I'm right (to believe), then I have eternal life to look forward to. If I'm wrong, then it just doesn't matter.

If you all found out that Christianity was incorrect, you all, in general, would not take up another religion (continue to be a believer....albeit in another faith)......even though the logic above says you should.

Wu,

I understood your question....I do not think you understood my answer no I would not look into another religion no way would I.....even if the one I was studying turned out to be false I still would not.

Thats like saying would you follow the devil if he said he was Jesus.

Actually Wu...the scenario I described for Rider in which all see Christ returning is more like what is chronicled in Revelation 19...if you care to check it out. Reply...

ND. I think that I misunderstood your question......that is why I posted the date and time above.

But to cover the bases:

1. If the Christians are right (as embodied by those on this KXNET forum), then, at death, yours truly, I have heard from some Christians, will be cast into oblivion. Which is where I thought I would go anyway. However, there is a chance, according to other Christians, yours truly will be spend eternity in torturous suffering.....which would be less preferable to me.

2. Let me answer if you meant Christ came back today, while I am alive.....in this way.   About 15 years ago, I was living in Manhattan, approximately four blocks from Beth Israel Hospital. And at that time, a prominent Hasidic Rabbi named Rebbe Schneerson, was a patient there. He was gravely ill and the prognoses was that he would die......which he did in the Summer of 1994.

It was reported that his followers believed he would rise from the dead in about three days. So outside the hospital, hundreds of hasidic jews waited and prayed for the miracle.

I was at work in mid-town and talking to others in the office and I said: "I hope he does it (rises from the dead)."

Those around me, surprising to me, said: "How could you wish for such a thing?"

To which I replied: "Why wouldn't you? Though it wouldn't prove anything, it sure would give me a huge clue as to where to look."

Now, before you inform me that some guy already did this 2009 years ago, please save it. .... I brought the example up for that very purpose.

I don't think I need to go into why a modern example would be needed for a present-day Thomas.
