Wouldn't it be great if it was constantly being manufactured by the earth?

I'll have to think about it; still weigh it against potential harms......but, my gut reaction is to think that it would be great.....

One thing though......getting it is still a problem in 2008.

wuw - I have stated in different forums some time back I have not believed in the "fossil" fuel theory.  It makes absolutely no sense to me.  Plants and animals on the surface somehow not rotting away, but somehow making it's way to 15 to 20 thousand feet below the surface to then be transformed to "oil"?  But I thank you, I did not know the theory, or if there was one, you have linked in wikipedia.

F & B. If you will.....please accept this retractiion of my last email.  It was rude.....and I do apologize for it.

I would, however, like to know what it is that I said that has made you turn our discussions personal?

Why the ad hominem attacks on me?  This is the third time in three or four days that you, out of the blue, have decided to go snapping terrier on my butt.

How in the course of conversation above.....which was, I thought, civil between my old nemesis, Jack A and me, did you just decide to drop that blast......not when I said it two months ago......but in the last couple of days on a post that I was fairly meticulous in crafting a more developed argument about drilling off-shore and ANWR.

Even Good Lord, the person I directed my NIMBY quote too months ago......didn't bring it up [my NIMBY quote] on this thread.

Did you even read these pages?

- - -

On another post, I question why you would call the daughter of Ms. Palin a whore.......excuse me "The town whore"....just because she got pregnant?

What do I get from you? Some snippy comments about me being a metrosexual and not a real man.  Huh?

I've said this before.....usually there are no winners on these posts. Arguments get convolted....disjointed and ultimately dropped. However, you can lose...... and it usually starts taking the form of attacking the person instead of addressing the argument.

I'm guilty of it above.

F & B. Though your assertion has been readily admitted by me as a reason for part of my opinion (not all my opinions are based in logic - - I would think you would understand this....since formal reasoning does not appear to be a strength of yours)

I do, however, defy anyone to read this thread from beginning to end and say that your above characterization accurately captures my thoughts on the subject.

I hope I am not feeding into any kind of fetish you possess. Spanking you on a continual basis doesn't do anything for me.

......all, I was not just refering to the Bakken, this field has been in the news to SOME extent.  I agree, we need to build the infrastructure also.  How will the environmental facists feel about that?

WHAT I am reading is there are other fields besides the Bakken.  Go to the link I posted earlier.  The Green River formation of Colorado - wow - this sounds like it dwarfs the Bakken, and the Bakken is HUGE.  Why haven't we heard from the media on this - is it for real?

Make you wonder if there will ever be a "peak oil".......................

Jack A.

I believe on this very post.....and on a related post that ran concurrently, I, myself, mentioned the Bakken reserves.....and am for drilling there. I am not sure, but I don't think there is any controversy regarding Bakken.

And instead of telling liberals to mention Bakken more. I wish conservatives would scream it from the four corners of the world. I hope it makes all of the networks. I will stand next to you in saying we should drill Bakken.

Jack A.  you asked why nobody is talking about the Bakken reserves in North Dakota, but I have to tell you that there has been publicity about this oil play and it is being actively pursued.  There was a recent story on ABC as well as on Fox News.

For the most part, North Dakota's oil reserves are being drilled.  There are some areas that have been off limits.  These would include some of the National Grasslands areas and the Fort Berhold Indian reservation.  The reaso they have not been exploited is that it is very difficult to jump through all of the beaurocratic and legal hoops.  The administrative costs have just made it too costly.  That is slowly starting to change however.

The other problem is that there are not enough fully staffed rigs to drill for the oil.  Most of the companies drilling right now are highly understaffed.

Even if there were enough rigs to go around, the infrastructure used to deliver the oil to refineries is not sufficient, and there are not enough refineries to take all of the oil.  Remember, the newest US refinery was built in the 1970's.

Most of the liberals on the left coasts think of North Dakota as flyover land that is mostly just a barren wasteland so they mostly don't realize or care that there is oil here.  So while they have their minds on other priorities, we'll keep drilling and pumping.

How are these for "numbers"? I like them. And why aren't we hearing this from the media? Got this in an email....

1. Ever heard of the Bakken Formation?   GOOGLE it.  It will blow your

mind.

The U.S. Geological Service issued a report in April ('08) that only

scientists and oilmen/women knew was coming, but man was it big. It was

a revised report (hadn't been updated since '95) on how much oil was in20

this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota; western South Dakota; and

extreme eastern Montana ... check THIS out:

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's

Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all

American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's
Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all
American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information

Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just

10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel, we're looking at a

resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion.

'When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see

their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.' says Terry Johnson, the

Montana Legislature's financial analyst.

'This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found

in the past 56 years,' reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It's a

formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred

to as the 'Bakken.' And it stretches from Northern Montana, through

North Dakota and into C

anada. For years, U.S. oil exploration has been

considered a dead end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching

for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological

breakthrough has opened

up the Bakken's massive reserves... and we now

have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light,

sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER

BARREL!

That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 41 years

straight.

2. [And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one

should - because it's from TWO YEARS AGO, people!]

U.S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World! Stansberry Report

Online - 4/20/2006 Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky

Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world is more

than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its

extraction.

They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders,

than all the other proven reserves on earth. Here are the official

estimates:

-8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia

-18-times as much oil as Iraq

-21-times as much oil as Kuwait

-22-times as much oil as Iran

-500-times as much oil as Yemen - and it's all right here in the

Western United States.

HOW can this BE!? HOW

can we NOT BE extracting this!? Because some

goofy politicians have blocked all efforts to help America become

independent of foreign oil.

James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in

this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2

TRILLION barrels. Untapped. That's more than all the proven oil

reserves of crude oil in the worl d today, reports The Denver Post

Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price - even with this find? Think

again! It's all about the competitive marketplace, - it has

 to.

[Got your attention/ire up yet? Hope so! Now, while you're thinking

about it ... and hopefully you'll do this:

3. Take a couple minutes and compose an e-mail; fax or good

old-fashioned letter to all your friends and associates. Alert them to

the fact that unethical politicians  have been and will continue to

obstruct all plans to make America independent of foreign oil.

Something has to be done and NOW.

If you don't take a little time to do this, then you should stifle

yourself the next time you want to complain about gas prices .. because

by doing NOTHING, you've f Reply...

I will believe McCain  just as Obama would  have, went by the rules set down by RICK WARREN...

Errr..nc, there is already dispute that McCain heard some of Obama's talk as he was entering the building. Plus, he was among his base, of course he'll do well... just as Obama would kick his ass in an ACLU or UAW forum. Of course the audience will pander... makes no bearing to the answers itself.

ANYWAY.... maybe I missed it, but are there any dissentors to the Picken's plan? It seem pretty solid. Obama has been the only candidate to seriously look into his proposal. And that's what this country needs... a president that would place energy before everything else... even terrorism. Without solving the energy issue, everything else doesn't matter. Won't have money for health care, fix the social security issue, a whole list of items. Terrorist wouldn't even have to bomb us; we'd self-implode. Any candidate that thinks different need not waste his time.

And as a democrat, yes, I agree with nuclear power. My understanding is that spent nuclear fuel is much easier to process/reuse than it was years ago. Place a majority of our grid on nuclear, split half of our transportation between electric and NG cars, solar panel as many homes in America as possible & a wind turbine for each small town, and work towards hydrogen technology. Coal will still have its place (NG and electricity)... Beulah has one of the cleanest plants in the nation. Just a simpler precipitator.

I'd gladly invest privately and agree to shed tax dollars on wind. North Dakota is set to make a lot of money off of this.
